Is a baby’s vomit impure? Does it need to be washed if it gets on one’s cloth? Is a small amount on the clothes during Salāh forgiven?

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Firstly, a baby’s vomit is considered impure when it is a mouthful [1]. If it is less than a mouthful, it isn’t regarded impure. [2]

If the vomit is visible, you may purify it by washing it off. If it is non-visible, you may purify it by washing thrice (body/clothes) and squeezing it each time (clothes). [3]

If this vomit gets on to one’s body or clothes, there are two possible scenarios that affect the validity of one’s Salah:
1) The vomit is equal to the amount of a Dirham (Around 4/5 grams of solid filth or 5 cm in diameter), then the body and clothes will become impure. If so, one must purify the area before performing Salāh. Salah performed in this state will not be valid.
2) If it is less than the amount of a Dirham (as outlined), then one is excused and the Salāh prayed in this state will be valid. However, even in this case, it is recommended to remove the impurity before one prays. [4]

كل ما يخرج من بدن الإنسان مما يجب بخروجه الوضوء أو الغسل فهو نجس من البول والغائط والقيء ملء الفم
