Question(s):
Dental plan for 1 year. Costs £90. I definitely know that I will spend around £500 in work on my teeth which I can claim back. Premium is £7.50 a month for 12 months. In that twelve months, I will definitely cover the cost of the premium as I need two checkups a crown, and a filling which costs about £400. So for £90, I save around £400. As I definitely know the benefit will outweigh the premiums, is that insurance allowed?

Answer(s):
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

The default position in relation to such insurance premiums is impermissibility, due to the prohibited elements therein. [1]

Thus, in the scenario in question, if you are able to afford the required treatment through halal means, adopting such a premium-based dental plan will not be permissible.

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best.
