Question(s):
If a mother gives zakath on behalf of their son say £50 is that zakath then done on behalf of the son, bare in mind the son was not aware of this nor did he make intention?

Answer(s):
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

In principle, Zakāt may be paid by an individual directly or via a proxy/representative with consent.

Accordingly in the scenario in question, if there was no consent from the son, the Zakāt will not be valid on his behalf. [1]

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best.
