Question(s):
I believe men cannot wear gold rings. Does this ruling also apply to white gold, and other metals such as platinum, titanium, palladium etc (which all look like silver)? Also, would the ruling of white gold differ with different carats?

Answer(s):
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

What is White Gold?
White gold is defined as an alloy of gold and at least one white metal, usually nickel, manganese, palladium, or zinc. To make the gold white, it is combined with metal alloys that are white in nature and plated with an extremely hard element called rhodium. [Refer to notes below]

In principle, men are permitted to wear only silver rings or rings which are plated with silver, with the condition that the silver is limited to a maximum of 4.86g (excluding stone) The head of the ring may be from any type of stone (eg. diamond etc). [1]

Hence, regardless of the amount or purity (carats), it would be impermissible for men to wear white gold. Similarly, it would also be impermissible for men to wear platinum, titanium and palladium. [1][2]

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best.
