Question(s)

Is it permissible to serve alcohol to a non-muslim?

Answer(s)

الجواب حامدا ومصليا ومسلما

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

In principle, it is impermissible to serve alcohol to anyone, as this is directly assisting in sin. [1]

Allah Almighty states,
وَلَا تَعَاوَنُوا عَلَى الْإِثْمِ وَالْعُدْان
Translation: And do not assist each other in sin and transgression.
(Surah Ma’idah, Verse 2)

In such a scenario, one should communicate their concerns with their manager, to abstain from directly serving alcohol. If this is not possible, then one should constantly seek forgiveness from Allah Almighty, whilst searching for alternative lawful work. [2]

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best.
