Question:
Can my child stand beside me in the adults’ saff during prayer?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Ideally, children should stand in a separate saff behind the men. If a child joins the men’s row, it is makrūh (disliked) but does not invalidate the salah. However, if a child is alone and placing him separately is impractical, or there is concern that he may cause disruption, he may stand with the men.

Finally, it is important to gently teach children the etiquette of the masjid to minimise distractions during Salah.

وقال المفتي محمود حسن الجنجوهي في فتاوى محمودية (٦/٤٨٩، فاروقية): نابالغ اگر تنہا ہو تو وہ بالغین کی صف میں ہی کھرا ہوگا۔ انتهى

وقال الرحمتي في تقريرات الرافعي (ص ٧٣، إيج إيم سعيد): ربما يتعين في زماننا إدخال الصبيان في صفوف الرجال لأن المعهود منهم إذا اجتمع صبيان فأكثر تبطل صلاتهم بعضهم ببعض وربما تتعدى ضررهم إلى إفساد صلاة الرجال، سندهى. انتهى
