Death in Service Benefit and Inheritance

I hope you are in the best of health. I wanted to ask you a question: In 2012, a husband passed away. Before this, he was working. Whilst working, he was diagnosed with cancer. His company said that if he continues working until he can no longer work (until death basically) then he will receive 4 times the amount he usually gets paid in a year (approx £130,000). In the contract that I’ve sent, it says that he has to appoint a nominee that will receive this sum. The husband had nominated his wife. When he passed away, this wealth was distributed to the inheritors with the rest of his assets. Recently, someone put it in the mind of the wife that, Islamically, she was entitled to receive the sum. Will this wealth be part of the inheritance or will it solely be for the wife?

Zakāt on undistributed inheritance due to family dispute or legal problems

A person’s father had passed away 19 years ago and he left behind some money (savings in bank account). The family had no access to this money until a few days ago. Now the money has been distributed according to islamic inheritance. They knew they would receive the money eventually but didn’t know how much. The question the family are asking is, do they now have to pay zakat for the past 19 years for their share?
