Question(s):
A person has died in the UK and now the children want to give fidyah for the deceased to the poor in Pakistan. Which place’s rate should be taken into consideration, Pakistan or the place where the person died (UK)?

Answer(s):
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

The calculation of the fidyah value should be based on the location of the donor. [1]
Thus, in the scenario in question, the UK rate should be considered.

وأما مكان الأداء وهو الموضع الذي يستحب فيه إخراج الفطرة روي عن محمد أنه يؤدي زكاة المال حيث المال ويؤدي صدقة الفطر عن نفسه وعبيده حيث هو

قیمت صدقہ فطر میں قیاس علی الزکاة کا مقتضی تو یہ ہے کہ موضع مال کی قیمت کا اعتبار ہو۔۔۔اور صدقہ فطر کا سببِ وجوب راس ہے تو اس کا مقتضی یہ ہی ہے کہ صدقہ فطر میں اس جگہ کی قیمت کا اعتبار کیا جاوے جہاڻ متصدق وقت اداے صدقہ فطر کے موجود ہے، والثانی راجح عندی نظرا الی العلة ولم ارہ صریحا فلیراجع۔

Note: In the aforementioned statements of the Fuqaha’, there is mention of Sadaqatul Fitr, but the rulings of Sadaqatul-Fitr also apply to Fidyah, just as the Jurists have indicated in issues such as the amount and recipients of Fidyah etc.
